To my knowledge, Daniel has released fifteen albums of his
own. Some or all of the Stress Records (a.k.a. Stress Worldwide
Communications) releases are available at Waterloo Records in Austin,
Texas, and possibly from 4716 Depew Ave., Austin, TX 78751. Here are the

called Merry Xmas Fan Club Release, that I don't know anything
else about. If you know anything about this or any other releases I have
omitted, please tell me about them.
With Others
In 1988 Daniel worked a lot with Half Japanese's Jad Fair. They
recorded an album together called both Jad Fair & Daniel
Johnston and Daniel Johnston & Jad Fair [JAD 9-2],
depending on which side of the jacket you look at first. It was released
in 1989 on the label Penn Gillette founded,
50,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Watts. Another of the label's
albums from the same year was Marueen Tucker's incredible Life
In Exile After Abdication [Moe 7-2], which includes Moe and Daniel
singing "Do It Right," written by Daniel and Jad. Daniel also set Jad's
words to music in "Some Things Last a Long Time" on his 1990
[Shimmy-Disc 028] album.
On Compilations
Daniel does two of his songs on an album put together by the Butthole
Surfers around 1990. I don't know the name of the album, but if
anyone does, please tell me. Daniel does "Devil Town" and "Don't Play
Cards With Satan" on the album. In 1993, he contributed his version of a
David Fair song, "Pinny Pinny" to the Goobers Vol. 1 A
Collection of Kid's Songs [T.E.C. Tones 93902] album. He can also be
heard performing "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" on a promotional CD
Atlantic Records sent to radio stations in December 1994 called So
This Is Christmas.
On Soundtracks
I know Daniel contributed a song to the Slacker (Richard
Linklater, 1991) soundtrack, but I don't know which one. He also
appears in Linklater's first feature, No Longer, Not Yet, and one
scene consists of Linklater listening to parts of Hi, How Are
You. Most recently, one of K. McCarty's covers appears in the
credits of Linklater's latest film, Before Sunrise. Daniel also
contributes "Come See Me Tonight" to the soundtrack album of the ABC TV
show My So-Called Life [Atlantic 82721-2], though I don't know if
the song ever appeared on the show itself.
Interpreted by Others
The most extensive interpretation of Daniel's songs is K. McCarty's 1994 album Dead Dog's Eyeball: Songs of Daniel
Johnston [Bar/None AHAON042-2], which is an entire album of
Daniel Johnston songs. McCarty used to play guitar for the Austin band
Glass Eye, which no longer exists. Catch her travelling show at a
club near you!
Several others have recorded his songs: Yo La Tengo ("Speeding
Motorcycle"), The Pastels ("Speeding Motorcycle" on Goobers
Vol. 1 A Collection of Kid's Songs [T.E.C. Tones 93902]), Half
Japanese ("King Kong" and "Casper" on BOO! Live in Europe 1992
[T.E.C. Tones 94602]), Jad Fair & Kramer ("King Kong" on Roll
Out the Barrel [Shimmy-Disc 012]), the Dead Milkmen ("Rocket
Ship" on Bucky Fellini). Sonic Youth, fIREHOSE,
