Acquisition Information
Extracted from the Jean Brown papers in October 1987, and five additional supplements, recieved 1989-1994.
Processing History
Several catalogers have worked on various aspects of the collection, including Higgins himself. Michel Oren, a Getty Center reader from Sept 1991-June 1992, volunteered to help process the archive. He did not engage in any physical processing activities, but did compile a cursory inventory. The document he produced was not incorporated into this finding aid, because it no longer reflected the box organization subsequently created. In July 1992, Higgins specified the series arrangement utilized in this finding aid and interfiled some of Series I, II and III. Jocelyn Gibbs, Special Collections intern, from January-May 1993 finished most of the remaining preliminary organization with assistance from work-study student Natalia Costea. Gibbs also completed physical processing and made finding aid notes for Series I, A-H and most of Series II. Lynda Bunting, part-time temporary assistant, from May 1993-January 1994 completed physical processing of Series I, I-Z; II, Rejections; and all of Series III, IV, and V. She also wrote the finding aid by incorporating Gibbs' notes with her own. In November 1993, Higgins worked directly with Bunting in order to interfile the recently received supplement and to identified unknown items.
