TRIADIC MEMORIES:
MORTON FELDMAN

Aki Takahashi, piano

O. O. IMPORTS # ALCD-33 B

From the earliest years of his career, the American composer Morton
Feldman wrote for the piano. More than any other instrumental medium
of orchestra, chamber music or solo instruments, the piano had a special
place in his compositional development and evolution. It often times held
a central role in his chamber works but was the primary instrument for all
of his solo writing. Feldman had very strong feelings about the per-
formance of his work and during his lifetime expressed his desire to have
Aki Takahashi perform his music - she was his first choice over all other
pianists. The brilliant Japanese pianist Aki Takahashi to whom Feldman
dedicated all of his piano parts (both solo and ensemble ) from 1981 until
his death has performed Mr. Feldman's work around the world at the most
prestigious festivals in the world. Subsequently, from 1981 until his death
she presented the premieres of most of his piano works including the
recently recorded PIANO AND STRING QUARTET (with the Kronos Quartet
on Nonesuch Records) and VIOLIN and PIANO with Paul Zukofsky.

This recording entitled, TRIADIC MEMORIES features the 65 minute piano
piece of the same title by Morton Feldman. The recording presents the
most definitive recording of this seminal work of Mr. Feldman. Many
people feel it is the most significant and important solo piano work of his
career and a culmination of his 35 years of writing for the instrument.
Fortunately, with the advent of compact disc technology it has been
possible to put this lengthy piece on one disc so that a complete
uninterrupted listening is possible.

TRIADIC MEMORIES is recorded in Japan with extraordinary digital quality
and the exceptional recording engineer Yukio Kojima.
